Self mastery is step one. It’s the basis for any other endeavor. And it requires continual vigilance. Increasingly I’m drawn to examining my own thoughts. Why am I thinking about what I’m thinking? How did I get focused on what’s in my mind right now? Is it good for me? Time is short, life is precious. When I’m fully moving to my own rhythm, I’m pure energy. The things that my undisciplined mind yearn for, they anchor me down in the long run. I want to reduce the clutter and strip down to skills, knowledge, goals and methods. I believe the more I’m able to do that, the more vivid my dreams will be and life will be more satisfying.

I am claiming 2009 as my time to restore myself physically and spiritually, to grow my inventory of practical knowledge with an eye toward deciding and embarking on my career, and to achieve the organization and focus necessary in order to establish a default proactive mental orientation. 2009 is a year of chrysalis, for me to strengthen the fabric of my family and to acknowledge and make use of the meaningful experiences and artifacts born of my life to this point in time.

This will be brief. I'm striving for absolute commitment. To cut a fresh layer from the jaded, unresponsive sediment I'm forming into requires commitment. Ramping up is good for starters, but I've been in gear for a while now. For at least a period I need to hold myself to absolute commitment. It's amazingly hard to turn that corner. One way to possibly achieve this is to set my goals realistically. Then I can feel the satisfaction of carrying out my plan to the letter while not blowing a fuse in the process.

It's been a minute. Spring showed up today in a big way, and it's time to get busy. This season's theme is growth...for me that means recognizing & dropping bad habits and looking at the world around me with a fresh perspective. Putting my resources into play and building a brand new lifestyle. I'm ready to put it all together.

Building on the last entry, how does a person unravel all the complexities combining to create the current state of affairs at any given point? My desire to gain some traction and be able to conclusively measure personal growth is what drives me on a daily basis. Included in that general restlessness is the instinct to provide for and represent my family. Moving into different roles, and figuring out which course of action allows for the most meaningful expression of who I am while tangibly benefiting the family is the hardest work.

Create a record of my thoughts.

I think that my decision to create this record in a public space is due to my interest in connecting and contributing to the world around me. As I grind away achieving my personal and professional goals, I hope to benefit from this record which will chart my progress, and note my mistakes. I've always liked the idea of documenting life, and I hope that this journal is useful to others that share that interest.
